White Sands National Park AR Interactive Poster

Augmented Reality Experience Poster and Postcard Design

Type Hike is a collaborative project that meshes typography, illustration, and the natural wonder of the United States. White Sands National Park was chosen as the subject. For this project the challenge was presented to add an Alternate Reality trigger to show the type specimen of the type used in the illustrative poster.

Initial sketches and drafts

While researching for this project I found a couple of images where a sign had been covered in sand. Right from the start I knew that I wanted to play with the idea of burying something in the sand. The first couple of drafts had the start of the idea but they weren’t standing out.

The first “finals”

The front facing poster of White Sands National Park was used as the AR trigger through Artivive to show the type specimen.

The Revisit

Revisting this project three years later, I’m still proud of the original image. I wanted to keep the original poster and just update the boot prints to be a bit more clear. For the AR triggered image the type specimen was changed to an about and an added illustration to tie the pieces together.

The postcard was updated to have the added boot print.
